Story — English
Son of Yasir and Sumayyah. Tortured in Makkah. Under extreme duress he verbally said words pleasing to his torturers but his heart remained firm in faith. He came to the Prophet ﷺ weeping — the Prophet asked if his heart was firm; he said yes. The Prophet ﷺ told him he could repeat it if they forced him again. Allah revealed 16:106: ‘Whoever disbelieves in Allah after his belief — except for one who is forced while his heart is secure in faith.’ This became the foundation of the principle of ikrah (coercion) in Islamic law.

یاسر اور سمیہ کے بیٹے۔ تشدد میں زبان سے کفر کہہ دیا، دل مومن رہا۔ نبی ﷺ نے تسلی دی۔ اللہ نے آیت نازل کی (16:106): ‘مگر جسے مجبور کیا جائے جبکہ دل ایمان پر مطمئن ہو’۔
